The Golden Needle can also be applied in summer, but it is necessary to protect oneself from the sun. However, the winter, autumn, and spring seasons, when the sun is not intense, are the ideal times for golden needle application.
What treatments is the golden needle used for?
It is used for removing fine lines and wrinkles, tightening the pores, and regaining the elasticity of the skin. It is also used for recovery of sagging, removal of scars, tissue deformations and burn marks, and treating stretch marks that occur in cases such as sudden weight change and pregnancy, as well as the neck area and under the chin.

Gold needle, also known as "radiofrequency micro-needling", is a cosmetic procedure that uses tiny needles and radiofrequency waves to rejuvenate the facial skin. The treatment aims to stimulate the growth of healthy cells after controlled skin damage.

After this procedure, the skin becomes faster, thicker, and smoother.

Wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars are among the cases in which a golden needle treatment is suitable. In the micro-needling procedure, fine needles are used to create micro-wounds or channels in the skin. This procedure thus triggers the production of capillaries, elastin, and collagen. If the procedure also uses radio frequency waves, it is called radio frequency micro-needling.

In this article, we will have a look at the golden needle techniques and the benefits of the golden needle first. In the following part of the article, you can read about the golden needle procedure and golden and comparison of golden needles and traditional acupuncture.

Golden Needle Techniques

Radiofrequency micro needling increases the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, as in micro needling. Radiofrequency micro needling tightens existing elastin and collagen. In addition, it uses heat to increase new collagen. Micro-needling creates a controlled injury. Some of the golden needle, radiofrequency micro-needling techniques can be lined up as below:

  • Fractional Radiofrequency Microneedling: In this technique, insulated microneedles are allowed to reach the dermis to send a high-voltage radiofrequency pulse to the targeted tissue.
  • Insulated Microneedles: Insulated microneedles have an insulating layer that allows heat to radiate from the tip only. In this way, it protects the epidermis and only heats the lower layers. These needles give better results in patients with darker skin types who are at higher risk of hyperpigmentation.
  • Bipolar vs. Monopolar Radiofrequency: Radiofrequency micro-needling devices can utilize either bipolar or monopolar technology. Bipolar devices use two electrodes on the needle tips, allowing the radiofrequency energy to flow between them. Monopolar devices, on the other hand, use a single electrode on the needles and a grounding pad elsewhere on the body. Both techniques have their advantages and can be chosen based on the specific needs of the patient.

Benefits of Golden Needle

The golden needle is used for different skin conditions and has many benefits for these conditions. Many skilled practitioners like dermatologists work in the procedure of the golden needle to serve better to patients. Also, evidence-based practices are applied in the procedure like safety precautions.

Some of the benefits of the golden needle can be lined up as below:

  • Smoother, tighter skin
  • More even skin tone thanks to reduced hyperpigmentation
  • Younger looking skin
  • Smaller, tighter pores
  • Brighter skin
  • The disappearance or reduction of scars
  • Improved skin texture

Some of the skin conditions that the golden needle used:

  • Acne scars: A 2014 study found that radiofrequency micro needling moderately improved acne scars in participants by almost 60%. Similar results were obtained in another study conducted in 2017.
  • Hyperhidrosis: According to a 2019 study, it was found that the procedure can permanently treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. A 2013 study found that treatment reduced the number and size of sweat glands.
  • Skin rejuvenation: According to a 2019 study, it was found that the procedure can permanently treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. A 2013 study found that treatment reduced the number and size of sweat glands.

The Golden Needle Procedure

During a typical radiofrequency micro-needling procedure, the following steps may occur:

  • Consultation: You will have a consultation with a qualified practitioner to discuss your concerns, medical history, and expectations from the procedure. The practitioner will evaluate your skin and determine if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.
  • Preparation: Before the procedure, the practitioner will cleanse your skin and may apply numbing cream or local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the treatment.
  • Microneedling: The practitioner will use a device with tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in your skin. These needles can penetrate the outermost layers of the skin to reach the deeper layers.
  • Radiofrequency energy delivery: Simultaneously or immediately after creating the micro-injuries, the device will deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin. This energy heats the targeted tissues, promoting collagen production, and stimulating skin tightening and rejuvenation.
  • Treatment areas: The practitioner will carefully move the device across the treatment areas, ensuring even coverage and addressing specific concerns such as wrinkles, acne scars, or skin laxity.
  • Post-treatment care: After the procedure, the practitioner may apply a soothing ointment or serum to help with healing and provide post-treatment instructions. These instructions typically include avoiding sun exposure, using sunscreen, and avoiding strenuous activities for a certain period.

It's important to note that the specific details of the procedure may vary depending on the device used and the practitioner's technique. It is recommended to consult with a qualified professional who can provide personalized information and guidance based on your specific needs. The number of treatment sessions may vary for each patient.

Golden Needle vs. Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture, which is one of the ancient healing techniques and complementary therapies

aims at natural self-healing. Acupuncture is a holistic healing procedure and in this kind of traditional procedure, we see some concepts like holistic wellness, pain management, and alternative medicine. These traditional procedures provide emotional well-being and different health benefits. In this procedure, small needles are placed in certain areas of the face to stimulate anatomical areas, and skincare is performed in this way. Back pain, neck pain, and depression are some of the treatment areas. Small needles are also used in the treatment of some skin diseases when applied to the face.

Although acupuncture is a treatment method of Chinese origin that has been practiced for centuries, its effectiveness is still a matter of debate among doctors.

If we compare acupuncture and micro-needling, the former is typically used to treat pain-related symptoms such as back or neck pain. Micro-needling is mostly used to treat skin conditions. While acupuncture targets specific anatomical areas, micro-needling is used to create micro-injury and aims to increase collagen levels without causing permanent damage to the skin.
